Large Natural Wooden Maths Counting and Number Set - Numeracy Resource
This stunning set is perfect for scaffolding your child’s learning through hands on play with natural materials. It features 27 pieces including natural wood slices as pictured with mathematical symbols, dots for counting and numbers and 3 nesting boards for a hands on, visual prompting resource to help your child engage in mathematical thinking.
Use the wood slices for counting or comparing more, less, and same. They can be used with our loose parts manipulatives (purchased separately) for example, with our wooden rings, coins, balls and pine cones as counters and also with our giant wooden dice to help create mathematical questions and problem solving.
Some learning focus ideas of how to use this beautiful set:
Learn to count the dots, wood slices or nesting holes in the boards (or fill the holes with other materials such as pom Poms, rice, etc and count how many are filled or empty)
Learn to be able to represent numbers to 20. This means that your child can link the number of objects to the numeral.
Children group objects (materials you place in the nesting holes) into sets and learn to count by ones to determine the size of each set. Younger children may be figuring out how to accurately determine the number of items while older children (school age) can work out sets (groups) of ten.
Learn to model subtraction by moving groups apart.
Use the set to model multiplication and division by manipulating these as concrete materials to form equal groups as well as dividing amounts fairly.
Children learn to use mathematical language and link their mathematical ideas.
Children can learn to count backwards
Children can begin to start to solve simple everyday problems using number symbols. For example “if you had two dots and three dots there would be five dots all together which you could write 2+3=5
Begin to use comparative language such as ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ to describe groups of objects. Young children will learn to understand the concept of less with numbers lower than ten (milestone for early primary school aged children 5-6 years old) For example ask them to identify “which is less 8 or 2?”
Please note: The price is for maths set which includes the 27 wood slices and 3 nesting birds only and does not include the wooden bowl in some pictures shown here. This bowl can be purchased separately in another product listing.
